Happy Halloween
October 30, 2006

I remember when I was maybe 6 or 7. All the other girls were dressing up as princesses. Me and the boys were doing pirates. It was a brilliant move on the part of my young mind. All the girls thought the boys were still ‘icky’ so they quickly became the evil pirates. I, not being a boy, was the good pirate who they ran to for protection. Girls clinging to my arms and a pillow case full of candy? Best Halloween, ever.

Torrents, and Why I Love Them
October 30, 2006

Torrents have changed my life (that’s not me pictured above, btw). If you’re not yet part of the Torrent revolution, consider this a wet and warm invitation. Below are the sites I religiously use. Please comment on any other sites you find worthwhile. Links to specific torrents are always welcome, too.
Downloading Clients
I’ve tried this one and didnt’ find it as user friendly as some others though some people swear by it. I just swear at stupid drivers.
This is my client of choice. Great tips for getting the optimum usage out of this program can be searched for at Lifehacker.com.
Search Engines
This site can be a bit of a nightmare if you’re just starting out. It also lists more torrent sites than you can shake a stick at. That’s right. A stick!
This site is great because it searches multiple torrent sites at once. It’s extremely user-friendly and is my site of choice. Mix it with a fine Shiraz and you have a great night out. Am I a loser? Yes.
Specific Search Sites:
The sites below are great on their own. I am usually able to find what I am looking for at either of the three. Torrent Spy and the Pirate Bay have nifty colour indicators telling me the strengths of said torrents. At Isohunt, you have to learn to read the numbers accordingly.
Special Tip of the Day
The closer the Seeder (S) number is with the Downloader (D) number, the better chance of a quick download. Just because these numbers are outrageously high, doesn’t necessarily mean that the download will go quickly. If they are way off from one another, you’ll be a frustrated computer user and will find yourself doing drugs. Oh wait. That was just me!
Happy file sharing!
D.E.B.S.
October 27, 2006

D.E.B.S., 2004
Director: Angela Robinson
Starring: Sara Foster, Jordana Brewster & Devon Aoki
Trailer, Trailer & Clips
Recruited by the U.S. government for their unique ability to lie, cheat and fight, Amy, Max, Janet and Dominique join an underground academy of secret agents known only as D.E.B.S. These crime fighting hotties set out to save the world and keep their lipstick perfectly applied while doing so. Now the girls must combine their skills for their most important mission- to capture vexing vixen Lucy Diamond, the deadliest criminal the world has ever known. When D.E.B.S. star player, Amy, falls for Lucy, chaos erupts and the D.E.B.S. loyalty is put to the test.
It’s a campy cult classic (though I’m wondering what cult) and though the lines are cheesy and the acting cheesier, it’s still worth a bowl of popcorn and just under two hours of your time. If only for the ensuing fantasy of being kidnapped and seduced by her.
Desert Hearts (Part II)
October 27, 2006
Because I feel SO strongly that anyone out, or in the closet should see this movie, I am executing a re-post. Desert Hearts is an exhilirating look not only at a lesbian relationship between a ‘sure‘ + ‘unsure‘ couple, but it also a look into the ’50s Nevada lifestyle. *YAWN* you say? I fair not! Here is a link to torrents for this film. My final selling plea: there is nudity, sex and sometimes cheesy dialogue.
Original Post:

Desert Hearts, 1985
Director: Donna Deitch
Starring: Helen Shaver & Patricia Charbonneau
Trailer, or Trailer
My favourite movie that I’ve never told anyone about.
It is 1950s Nevada, and Professor Vivian Bell arrives to get a divorce. She’s unsatisfied with her marriage, and feels out of place at the ranch she stays on, she finds herself increasingly drawn to Cay Rivers, an open and self-assured lesbian, and the ranchowner’s daughter. The emotions released by their developing intimacy, and Vivian’s insecurities about her feelings towards Cay, are played out against a backdrop of rocky landscapes and country and western songs.
ps. Best sex scene, maybe EVER.

The Evolution of a Lesbian Icon
October 23, 2006

Check out this link.
It is a transcript of an interview hosted by Annamarie Jagose and featuring Laura Doan. The conversation revolves around Doan’s book: Fashioning Sapphism: The Origins of a Modern English Lesbian Culture. If anything, some of the images included are intriguing all on their own. I’m not sure if the obivous seriousness of each portrait is a common trait of pictures from their respective eras or, is it the true emotions of the subject caputred by the lens?

Mango Kiss
October 22, 2006

Mango Kiss, 2004
Director: Sascha Rice
Starring: Danièle Ferraro, Michelle Wolff & Sally Kirkland
Trailer & Clip
“Mango Kiss” is a story about Lou whose world turns upside-down when she falls in love with her best friend Sassafras. They journey to San Francisco and stumble into the wild world of role-playing and non-monogamous S/M dykes. Comedy ensues as these wholesome girls get in over their heads.
So this movie had that leafy-logo on the cover which indicates that it was prestigious enough to be in some random film festivals. That’s an okay sign, right? The selling point for me though, was this lady. She’s kick-fucking-ass-amazing.

A chance encounter in a supermarket with the playful and seductive singer Yip reawakens dormant feelings and she begins to think back on her teenage affair with Jin.
This is one of the many, many films I have yet to see. Believe it or not, I do have a life and can’t watch films day and night – though that wouldn’t be a bad gig.
Power Lesbians
October 22, 2006

Power Lesbians, Date Unknown
Director: Vivanne Howard
Starring: Rebecca Loos
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5 & Part 6
Rebecca Loos is on the loose! The super-scandalous reality star and former David Beckham mistress, takes on her most provocative challenge yet. She’s on her way to sunny LA to get to the bottom of the Power Lesbian mystique. Is it real or a media hoax? Does this ultra-exclusive, all-girls club really rule Hollywood, or is it just male paranoia? In this probing one-hour doc, Rebecca promises to infiltrate the scene– find out who the Power Lesbians are, where they go, and what they do for fun.
I don’t agree with some of the opinions voiced in this movie. For example, some people are just over-the-top agressive in getting the world to accept gay culture when, if we desire the world to be tolerant of our lifestyle, we should be tolerant of theirs. BUT this is an interesting documentary looking into the LA Power Dyke at it’s best. I’ll be getting my ticket to Dinah Shore, stat.
High Art
October 22, 2006

High Art, 1998
Director: Lisa Cholodenko
Starring: Radha Mitchell & Ally Sheedy
Clip & Trailer
Syd, a newly appointed assistant editor of Frame magazine, discovers that the woman living above her flat is none other than the talented yet enigmatic photographer Lucy Berliner. When the two of them meet, Syd gets acquainted with both Lucy’s past work and her circle of flegmatic, junkie friends. Seeing a definite career opportunity, Syd encourages Lucy to shoot new pictures for her magazine. At the same time, a strong attraction starts to develop between them. As the photo assignment continues, both Syd and Lucy are forced to examine their own lives and loves.
I must have low expectations but I again, wasn’t really expecting much. I need to get over this mental block but anyway…this movie was alright. Strung-out druggies, an ultra-anoreix Alley Sheedy (gone are the days of Breakfast Club), a horrible German accent by some lady from Six Feet Under and the most beautiful woman in the nerdiest glasses I’ve ever seen? I’ll have seconds, please.
Imagine Me & You
October 22, 2006

Imagine Me & You, 2005
Director: Ol Parker
Starring: Piper Perabo & Lena Headey
Trailer
A newlywed bride becomes infatuated with another woman whom questions her sexual orientation promoting a stir among the bride’s family and friends.
Yawn. Piper Perabo with a British accent in a horribly contrived Hollywood movie about questioning ones sexual orientations? I’ll admit there were brief moments of pleasure BUT ultimately, it was painful at best. Avoid it and be merry!
Lost & Delirious
October 22, 2006

Lost & Delirious, 2001
Director: Léa Pool
Starring: Piper Perabo, Jessica Paré & Mischa Barton
Trailer
Mary Bradford (Mischa Barton) is a shy, naive, freshman newcomer to a fancy girls boarding school where she strikes up a friendship with her two senior roommates, the overachieving Tori Moller (Jessica Paré), and the voraciously poetry reading, unapologetic, closeted lesbian Paulie Oster (Piper Perabo). As Mary tries to adjust to her new suroundings, with some guidence from the local groundskeeper Joe Menzies (Graham Greene), she soon learns that Paulie and Tori are lovers. When Tori, under pressure from her classmates, wants to break it off with Paulie, she resorts to extreme measures to win Tori back.
This is a one-time viewing. After that, you’ll just want to fast forward to certain parts. And Mischa Barton? Why and when did she stop doing films that meant something and traded in her dignity for ‘The O.C.?
Saving Face
October 22, 2006

Saving Face, 2004
Director: Alice Wu
Starring: Michelle Krusiec & Joan Chen
Trailer
A Chinese-American surgeon, living in Manhattan, is shocked when her single mother shows up on her doorstep pregnant. To help her mom save face and avoid the taboo in the Chinese community of an unmarried woman pregnant, the doctor helps her mom find Mr. Right. Cultures clash in this film that explores culture shock.
This film turned out to be quite sweet, actually. I dont’ know what i was expecting but I was pleasently surprised!
